New playground Opened

On 9th April 2017 the Parish Council proudly opened a new playground on The Green, Glapwell. The project was made possible with a cheque for £20,000 from the Derbyshire Environment Trust and also from money raised by local people at a number of events. Trevor Witts, Chair of Trust joined the fun and handed over the cheque. Councillor Ann Syrett, leader of Bolsover District Council also attended. New Playground

The New Playground is to open at the end of March 2017. You will have noticed that the old playground has been removed and work will start soon on building a new one. Here is a picture of how the new playground will look soon. There will be an official opening on Sunday 9th April when members of the Glapwell Community Development Group are organising an Easter Egg Hunt – more details to follow!

Statement on Future of Football ground

Members of Glapwell Sporting Association have decided that they are no longer in a position to manage the Football Ground. The representatives from Glapwell Football Club, Glapwell Gladiators and the Parish Council voted to disband the Association and to return the lease to the Parish Council with immediate effect. The Parish Council will be managing the bookings for use of the ground whilst alternative arrangements are made. Joint Sports Project for Glapwell

Members of local sporting organisations in Glapwell are meeting with the Parish Council to explore the potential for a joint project to improve sporting facilities in the village. There is a need to refurbish the existing facilities for both cricket and football clubs and also to look at the role that the Sports hall at The Glapwell Centre can play in the future. Glapwell Carnival 2014 - Keeping with tradition from the Carnivals of the past, this year saw our first celebrity ‘Matthew Wolfenden’ to make an appearance at the Carnival.  As celebrities go he was an absolute delight spending time chatting with visitors and posing for numerous photographs. For our 4th Annual Carnival the weather was kind to us. The procession of floats this year was very impressive with a variety of different themes.
